Bachalpsee

Near peaceful town of Grindelwald
a peak of Alps high and steep
befriended with azure splendor -
stands lonely the Bachalpsee
none shall fathom its beauty.

Formless icy mass of chill
a mirror, so pellucid
a glacier, so tranquil
stands lonely the Bachalpsee
none shall fathom its beauty.

Blue petals rotated around
the stem that elegantly sits
on gravels and khaki grasses
stands lonely the Bachalpsee
none shall fathom its beauty.

As center, holds life in peace
Flowers here, snowy hills there
Tacitly does its duty of nature
stands lonely the Bachalpsee
none shall fathom its beauty.

Footsteps come, footsteps go
Scale the mountains and vast lands
but no one looks at the silent lake
stands lonely the Bachalpsee
none shall fathom its beauty.

Spring, Summer, Fall

Charming petals lure
bees buzzing and flapping wings
Thrilled to hunt honey.

Ripples curl and swish
crash against rocks lying on shore
frothing and slapping sand.

This way and that way
sways and blows against cool breeze -
tree greeting the fall.

Autumn Sky

It sways in air with its elegant glow
Painted in deep blue and sprayed with feint white
The crisp September wind begins to blow
And freshens my room bathed in warm sunlight.
Soon the brightest star of all rises high
Its dazzling rays stretch across the town
Blinding tendrils brush aside morning sky
and shine, dressed in velvety orange gown.
With the curtain of dusk descending on land
Silvery moon shyly unveils its beauty
Summoned stars embroider the sky with strands
Gentle snores resonate in streets, performed tutti.
Here in a meadow I stand very small,
Silhouetted in the picture of a night fall.

Metaphor

A Metaphor is used to convey a complex idea using few words.

1. He is a lamppost, standing all alone on an empty street, solemnly illuminating the darkness.
2. Her garden is a forest, decorated with all sorts of remarkably beautiful plants and trees.
3. His mouth was the size of a cantaloupe slice when he received an A on his summative assignment.
4. Her inner intestines writhed and growled whenever she saw bleeding carcasses; she could not endure the disgusting scene.
5. The souls of young children are like the autumn sky; they are so deep and clear.
6. He was a fuming train with vapors coming up from his head.
7. She was lost in the midst of a labyrinth, unable to grasp any of the teacher's words.
8. His body was a giant vibrating phone; he was so thrilled and anticipated about the date with Emma Watson.
9. Alaska was a heaven; uncontaminated nature and innocent people made up a cozy community, just perfect for anybody to live.
10. She was the sun; she was always bright no matter what problem or obstacle she faced, smiling and saying, 'I am happy that the situation didn't get worse'.

The Star

The night air was deadly cold and the wind was like a flat blade of ice. The sky was a cloudless black, except for the moon, shimmering with pale light. The icy mass of darkness reigned over the town. Suddenly, a brilliant speck of light appeared in the sky. The star, or perhaps, some kind of an object, began to increase in size, illuminating the dusk. Immediately growing to the height of a lamppost standing by, it landed on the ground with a thud. As the stunning light deceased, it unveiled its form; it was a round spaceship, with checkered wings jutting out from the sides. A violet fume arose from the top with a puff, and a door appeared. With a creak, the door opened, and there was an elf-sized creature. The creature was rather eerie; its skin was a mixture of olive and emerald hue, its ears were twice as long as an average human's ears, and its snout reminded of a boar with protruding teeth. The most sinister part of all, however, was its giant eyes, wide with curiosity and nervousness. The creature hopped out, munching and growling. It quickly looked asides, as if to check there was nobody who would attack him. Then it saw a house at the end of a winding road, which was flashing with different colors. Lured by the flamboyant lights, it galloped across the snow-white ground to the house.
The house was having a party, celebrating a girl's 20th birthday. A dance party was going on inside the girl's home, and a huge disco ball on the ceiling was casting rainbow colors. Girls with sparkling dresses and boys with sleek suits were carousing and prancing around, warmed up by the bottles of beers. The creature was inside, and hopping around, was befuddled by the tall, raucous humans. Where are the men in inflated astronaut attires? The creature thought. Too drunk and busy having fun, people did not seem to notice the mysterious creature at all. Rolling its eyes sideways rapidly, the creature vigorously searched for its gem. That was its whole purpose of being sent to Earth all the way from Mars: to retrieve the gem that was stolen by humans in spacesuits. Creatures in Mars believed that the gem's power held everything in place, such as the stars and the planets. They believed that without the gem in Mars, the order in nature would be destroyed soon and the universe would return to chaos. The creature checked every inch of the leathery carpet floor, hissing and sniffing. It peered into a room with snoring people drenched in alcohol. It examined another room with all sorts of gourmet desserts that was crowded with munching and crunching people. It squinted at hallways where couples were tightly attached to each other, hands clasped. No matter how hard it searched, it did not catch a glimpse of the gem. Then, the party atmosphere suddenly turned quiet. The birthday girl had walked up to a podium. And there it was, right in the middle of the girl's necklace that was gracefully hanging down over her velvety dress, the gem.
As the creature had imagined, the gem was beautiful; glistening navy liquid was swaying inside a crystal case. Excited, it stealthily crawled over the floor so that nobody would hear its rustle and scream at its strange appearance. Fortunately, the girl's booming voice on microphone had grasped the attention of the people. The creature reached the wooden podium, and looked up at the girl.
"... and I would like to thank Connor, my dearest brother and a spectacular NASA astronaut, who has given me this diamond, the most beautiful gem I have ever seen in my life."
The girl took out her necklace and lifted it up for the audience. A cheering roar of whistles bursted out from everywhere, and clapping sounds rang through the house. The creature waited. As it had wished, the girl put down her necklace on the podium. Swiftly, it pulled down the chain of the necklace, securely held the gem in his wide-stretched fingers, and paved its way through the feet of bustling crowds.
As soon as it was outside the house, the creature scurried to its spaceship, cackling with joy and relief. Even the shivery snow and frosty ground could not stop it from smiling with happiness. It did not know, however, that it had left its triangular footprints on the snow.
When it reached its vehicle, it jumped up to the door and started the engine. Once again, the ship began to brighten, and eventually to a degree where eyes would hurt to stare. The spaceship flew up, and ascending, grew smaller and smaller, and finally, disappeared into the darkness.

Noon in Sahara

Fiery sun ablaze
fries land of golden powder
sizzling each grain.

Arid, sandy wind
blows across the barren land
ravaged by humans.

Amber Fennec fox
sprints silently and softly
scavenging for food.

Rasps fill sultry air -
scaly swishing tails swagger
and bulging eyes stare.

Bulky green cactus
covered with delicate spikes
stands lonely and dry.

Drip, drop, and drizzle.
Long-awaited tears from sky
shed to thirsty lands.

6 Word Story

1. The service ritual continues senselessly, uselessly.

2. Tiny, fragile magnolia bends, then leaps.

3. Turning white from green, ground cries.
